Manifesting the Future: ThirdSpace at moCa Cleveland

A satellite sanctuary for radical imagination and Black speculative thought.

We have activated a strategic satellite location at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, curated as a Black living room in the year 2999. This immersive archive is designed to be a site of respite and rigor, engaging directly with the visceral inquiries of the current exhibitions—specifically the corporeal histories unpacked in Doreen Garner’s King Cobra and the ecological urgencies of Homing Instinct. By placing the visionary works of Octavia Butler, N.K. Jemisin, and other speculative architects in dialogue with these exhibits, TSAL asserts that the gallery is not just for viewing, but for visiting the future we are actively building.

This collaboration extends beyond the physical archive. We are partnering with moCa to present a schedule of programmatic events designed to further interrogate the season's thematic undercurrents; we invite you to stay tuned for details on these upcoming convenings. For those seeking to begin this study immediately, our full curated syllabus—supporting both the exhibits and our satellite installation—is accessible via our Bookshop page:
