THIS YEAR, WE’RE DOUBLING DOWN ON OUR COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY COLLABORATION.
At a time when our history is under attack, and the arc of the moral universe seems to be bending the wrong way, and our sense of community feels more unstable than ever before, we have decided to lean into what comes naturally to us:
ACTIVATING SPACE + ACTIVATING PEOPLE
In the ThirdSpace Collaborative Universe, we know that Betting on Black is not a gamble. It is a testament to our belief in the transformative potential of soul power: the creative force that inspired our ancestors to sing + dance + laugh in the face of oppression. Soul Power has been the fuel of the centuries long Black Freedom Struggle, the secret ingredient in every soul food recipe, and the reason to believe we shall overcome.

Collaboration is the core of our value system and has proved throughout Black history to be our most valuable tool. To that end, we would like to highlight enriching events throughout the area.

The virtual collection plate, or maybe it’s the virtual grandma slipping you a folded up $20. Whatever you make it to be, we hope that you can contribute to our joyous cause with an in-kind donation. For sponsorship opportunities, click here.
Join ThirdSpace Action Lab for our second annual Juneteenth Soirée, where this year’s theme—Grandma’s Home—sets the vibe. Think warm hugs at the door, the smell of something good on the stove, and the kind of soul-nourishing love that made you feel seen, safe, and full. We're celebrating Black freedom and Black joy in a space as inviting and powerful as her living room, plastic-covered couch and all. Come ready to honor legacy, dance like the huge stereo’s on, and feel right at home.
Location:
Date: June 12
Time: 6pm-10pm
Author Cebo Campbell (Sky Full of Elephants) and Brea Baker (Rooted: The American Legacy of Land Theft and the Modern Movement for Black Land Ownership) will be in conversation on June 20. Date, time and RSVP to be updated.

Freedom Lectures are more than just talks—they’re gatherings meant to bring folks together with good spirits and even better vibes. These public events happen at the Reading Room or with our neighborhood partners, creating space for real conversation + connection.
Rooted in the power of community, this series introduces our greater Cleveland family to changemakers from across the country who are working to advance Black-led initiatives and shift narratives. Each lecture is inspired by the themes from The Peoples Practice and shaped by the visions of the Cleveland Freedom Dreams Coalition. It’s about learning together, dreaming together, and building a freer, blacker future—together.
