Dr. Evans' research and teaching focus on race & racism, space & place, urban education, and qualitative research methods. She is an assistant professor of sociology at Rice University. She earned her PhD. in sociology and education at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in anthropology at Amherst College.
Her book: We Belong Here is a landmark study that shows how Black residents experience and respond to the rapid transformation of historically Black places.
