Operations Manager

The Firm 

ThirdSpace Action Lab (TSAL) was created to disrupt the vicious cycle of disinvestment and displacement that negatively impacts the vitality of low-income communities of color.  We are a grassroots research, strategy & design cooperative, dedicated to prototyping creative place-based solutions to complex socio-economic problems. We are institutional and community organizers, turning multidisciplinary research into evidence-based strategies; and activating “third places” to co-creating more liberated spaces for people of color.

Position Summary 

TSAL seeks a manager to execute organization-wide operations and build and implement structure around regular public and private racial equity and inclusion trainings and TSAL events. The Operations Manager is responsible for improving and establishing administrative systems with the guidance and support of the Chief Operating Officer and helping TSAL function at its highest capacity, particularly as the company continues to grow. 

Roles and Responsibilities 

Operations

  • Support Chief Operating Officer with administrative tasks

  • Prepare all invoices for Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer to review and send

  • Provide scheduling support for full team including speaking and meeting requests 

  • Manage and direct general web inquiries to the appropriate TSAL team member

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes throughout the company

Racial Equity and Inclusion (REI) Trainings

  • Onsite event management and customer service 

  • Manage communications for REI trainings including responding to email inquiries and sending advance/follow-up emails to all attendees

  • Manage registration process for REI trainings including registration page creation, reporting, and special requests

  • Support and improve processes for group registration 

  • Monitor and manage supply/food needs in advance of trainings and provide on-site management and communications (check-in, attendee welcome, food, attendee close-out)

Space and Event Management

  • Serve as on-site contact for ThirdSpace Cafe and work with TSAL leadership on an evolving business model for the space

  • Manage inquiries for ThirdSpace Cafe event space rentals 

  • Manage ThirdSpace Action Lab events and programs (at ThirdSpace Cafe or in the community) through partnership management and logistics including but not limited to registration, on-site management, and communication

  • Develop and commit to a professional development plan and deepened racial analysis

Traits and Characteristics 

The Operations Manager must be an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial self-starter who is passionate about racial equity, racial inclusion + social justice. Detail-oriented and highly adaptive, the Operations Manager is comfortable with a balance of structure and fluidity and navigates this balance with a calm demeanor and a sense of humor. This person is a team player who jumps in to support any staff member with priority projects and events. The Operations Manager also has strong interpersonal and communication skills, assisting clients and the public with inquiries as needed. The Operations Manager is committed to growth within the role and advocates for the resources necessary for that growth.

Requirements + Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity, racial inclusion + social justice 

  • Administrative and/or operations experience

  • Impeccable customer service and/or communications

  • Solid event management experience

  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience

  • (Desired) Mastery of Microsoft Excel and Quickbooks 

Compensation and Benefits 

TSAL offers very competitive compensation, commensurate with experience, and a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage; paid time off and holiday pay; and the opportunity for bonuses.

Salary Range

$45,000 - $60,000
