Amena Brown Author Talk

$0.00

Amena Brown is coming to the Reading Room. July 10th at 6:30pm.

There's a particular kind of book that doesn't need to explain itself to you. You open it and it already knows who you are. Amena Brown's Never Tell a Black Girl How to Black Girl is that book.

Brown is a spoken word poet, Spelman graduate, and performing artist who has spent her career turning every room she walks into a living room. Her essays do the same. Moving between growing up in the South, the wisdom of the Black women who raised her, natural hair as theology, pop culture as mirror, and the ongoing work of defining yourself in a world that would rather do it for you. The writing is funny and warm and completely unafraid.

She'll be in conversation with Valencia Joy on Thursday, July 10th at 6:30pm at ThirdSpace Reading Room, 1464 E. 105th St.

The book is on the shelf now. The conversation is one you'll want to be in the room for.
